Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:2-4)
We believe Small Groups provide an excellent opportunity for us to deepen our involvement with one another, so we encourage everyone who is able to join a group.
We know from Christ’s prayer in John 17 that unity is dear to His heart. He wants His church to be united as one, though its members are many. We build this unity with each other as we live out the “one anothers” of Scripture. We’re called to…
- Be devoted to one another in brotherly love (Romans 12:10)
- Offer hospitality to one another (1 Peter 4:9)
- Have equal concern for each other (1 Corinthians 12:25)
- Spur one another on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24)
- Confess our sins to each other and pray for one another (James 5:16)
- Encourage one another (Hebrews 3:13)
These are just a few of the responsibilities we have to each other. God has not called anyone to live the Christian life in isolation, but has given us all to each other as a gift to help us grow into the likeness of Christ.
Requirements of Joining
1. Make attendance and participation a priority
A willingness to make a serious commitment to be present at Small Groups. Things come up (illness, travel, etc.) and we understand that. We are asking you to communicate with your Small Group leaders about those things and when possible be present and participate. Participation will not happen overnight, and it does not look like the same to each person. We are just asking for a commitment to work toward that.
2. Keep confidences
As people discuss personal issues, those things remain confidential. We must be able to trust one another with what is shared.
3. Be committed to developing friendships
The idea of Small Groups is not to have another place to go and have a Bible lesson, it is more about building personal involvement with one another. We ask for a commitment to get to know the people in your group.
